The grand, turn-of-the-century summer homes of Martha's Vineyard and
Nantucket are recalled in Disney's Yacht Club Resort and Disney's Beach Club
Resort, two deluxe-category hotels at Walt Disney World Resort.
Guests can walk or go by tram from the resorts to Epcot, or travel by water taxi to Disney-MGM Studios.
Convenient bus service transports guests throughout Walt Disney World Resort.
The luxury club hotels on the shores of 25-acre Crescent Lake are designed by noted architect Robert A.M.
Stern, best known for his East Coast seaside homes. The resorts take guests back to the 1890s with fancy-cut shingles, French doors and other post-modern embellishments that are the trademark of Stern's work.
The imagery follows through in Stormalong Bay, a 2 1/2-acre water recreation area reminiscent of a Nantucket beach with a life-size shipwreck with water slides, snorkeling in a sandy lagoon and a meandering swimming
area that seemingly flows into the surrounding lake.
There is also a 73,000-square-foot convention center adjacent to the resorts that includes a 36,000-square-
foot ballroom capable of seating up to 2,800 for dinner.
Complementing each other, the three-, four- and five-story club hotels nonetheless have distinctive
architectural styles. Each hotel has its own entrance motif, main lobby, restaurants and retail shops.
Disney's Beach Club Resort More Whimsical
The pale-blue-and-white "stick-style" Beach Club is "a little bit of this, a little bit of that," said Stern with a
smile. Stick style, he explained, was the prevalent architecture for seaside wooden cottages in the 1860s
and 1870s, "like grandmother's fabulous beach house -- ceiling fans, chintz, gingham."
The crisp colors open up the hotel's lobby with white wicker furniture, 24-foot-high ceilings, natural French
limestone floors and a seashell motif. Cast members are dressed in more casual pastel knickers or dresses.
Restaurants range from an authentic clambake with a rockweed steamer in the 218-seat Cape May Cafe to
Martha's Vineyard, a cozy 59-seat lounge featuring a wide variety of wines.
All of the 583 rooms continue the "summer cottage" ambiance with cool colors, a scattering of seashells and
French doors to outdoor porches and a white-sand beach.
Both hotels offer child-care facilities and are accessible to handicapped guests.
Stormalong Bay
Guests can splash through three lagoon areas -- including one specifically designed for younger water-lovers,
with a depth of 2 to 3 feet.
A spiral stair on board the life-sized shipwreck ascends to a 150-foot mast, broken and askew to serve as a
flume plummeting toward a rocky outcropping where another 150 feet of spins complete a fast-moving thrill slide.
Each hotel also features a "quiet pool" in alcoves far removed from Stormalong Bay. There also are motorized watercraft at the resort marina.
A tile-lined, 12-person Jacuzzi, reminiscent of the famous old health spas, is the centerpiece of the 4,750-
square-foot Ship Shape Health Club. A steam bath, sauna and massage rooms also are included. A weight
room and aerobics room both have staff trained to assist guests.
The centrally located Beaches & Cream old-fashioned ice cream parlour is the place to head after a swim or
workout, where guests can order burgers and decadent desserts like banana splits, frozen hot cocoa, floats, shakes and malts.
|
Of the 583 rooms, most feature two queen-sized beds or one king-sized bed, ceiling fan, nightstand, armoire,
table & chairs, TV, small safe, double sinks, and mini-bar. The average Guest Room is 380 square feet. Most
rooms have a maximum five-person room occupancy.

Where is the Yacht and Beach Club Resort?
The Yacht and Beach Club Resort is in the Epcot Resort area, located between Epcot and Disney-MGM Studios.
The BoardWalk Resort is directly opposite, across Crescent Lake.
What is the difference between the two resorts?
The Beach Club is themed after a New England beach club of the 1870s, while the Yacht Club theming is that
of a New England seashore hotel of the 1880s. The Yacht Club has a slightly more formal feeling. The guest
rooms are decorated differently, but the Resorts share all amenities. The Beach Club is decorated in pastel
shades, with wicker furniture, and the Yacht Club features lots of brass and darker colours. The Beach Club
is nearer to Epcot, whereas the Yacht Club is at the Disney-MGM Studios end.
Where are the best room locations?
Rooms on the fifth floor of the Beach Club were originally concierge rooms and are slightly larger.
Rooms at the Epcot end of the Beach Club, and Disney-MGM Studios end of the Yacht Club are farthest away
from the restaurants & main pool.
Rooms with the nicest views at each Resort are at the farthest end.
If you want to be close as possible to Epcot, request a room at the far end of teh wing at the Beach Club.
Rooms nearest the lobbies of each Resort are closest to all of the amenities and transport.
Water view rooms don't necessarily overlook the lake. Many offer views only of the swimming pool or canal, sometimes restricted.

Sico rooms feature a bed that pulls down from the wall, and are slightly smaller than standard rooms.
What room views are available?
Standard view rooms overlook the parking lot or wooded areas.
Garden view rooms overlook the areas around the quiet pool, or the wedding gazebo.
Water view rooms overlook Crescent Lake and the Boardwalk (not all water view rooms offer a direct view of
the lake or the Boardwalk). Some of the Water view rooms are located just above Stormalong Bay and may
be a bit noisy during the day.

| Resort Tips |
- Not-to-be-missed is the fabulous Stormalong Bay, a mini-waterpark in itself. Lockers and a pool bar are located by the pool, so you can take advantage even once you've checked out.
- Visit Beaches & Cream for one of the best burgers on Disney property, followed of course by a delicious ice cream sundae!
- Take a garden tour! Take a leisurely stroll through the serene and colourful grounds of Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, and explore beautiful gardens reminiscent of the New England seaside. A member of the horticulture team will escort you on an entertaining and educational walking tour that highlights the diverse landscaping throughout the Resort. Tours available Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:30am and 12:30pm. Visit Yacht Club Guest Services to reserve your place.
- Make use of the facilities and dining at nearby Resorts - BoardWalk, Swan & Dolphin.
- Rent a Surrey bike and go for a leisurely ride around Crescent Lake.
- Travel by boat to Disney-MGM Studios and Epcot can take time as the boat also makes stops at the BoardWalk, and Swan & Dolphin Resorts. If you're in a hurry it may be quicker to walk.
- You can now walk to Disney-MGM Studios via a special waterside walkway over by the BoardWalk.
- Take time to explore the Resort's beautiful gardens.
- The Beach Club end is much closer to Epcot, and the Yacht Club closer to Disney-MGM Studios, the Swan & Dolphin Resorts. Bear this in mind when deciding which to stay at if you intend on walking to either park.
